Memory Problem?

I get a message when I try to close down a program

Instruction@"0x01704ce0" could not read memory@"0x????ce?" Do you want to close program?

These locations vary. I have changed out my ram but still receive this error. Does anyone have any ideas?

I'm also getting this message occasionally after finishing Pinnacle Studio 8 or any large scale program..
It started when I got my new AMD build done with 512mb of PQI ram. I've also been getting a blue screen with white letters, but it flashes so fast and restarts that i can't read what it says, but i did see the word "memory" in there every time.. I'm running xp home w/ sp2 ..any suggestions?

I suggest you go to: http://www.memtest86.com/#download0
and run memtest to check your ram to make sure it is not the problem

I swapped out the ram with brand new ram. I'm wondering if it could be mem. controller.
It happens with IE & Age of Wonders, but seems to be random.

well the test would also bring up any issues regarding the memory or the controller itself since it has to deal with it during the testinng. Is it only those two programs that do it? MS programs nethertheless...

um..it's my first self-built computer...and the last time i checked the BIOS, the memory section..(CAS, NRT, etc) was all on auto...any solutions?

voltage counts are(from the ASUS Probe):
12.032 (+12V)

5.026 (+5V)

3.44 (+3.3V)

1.454 (Vcore)

Try kicking your memory voltage up to 2.7 volts and let's see what effect that has. If I remember my BIOSes correctly, that's in the Advanced > JumperFree section of your BIOS.

haha...i'm a noobie with computers, yes..but somehow i know octane is vital for cars

the vcore thing to 2.7v? i'll try it...if it blows up...ahh we're in for a bad one 😛

Not the VCore! :Q That's your CPU voltage. VDIMM is the memory voltage. I think stock on your board is 2.6 volts, and many other boards default to 2.5 volts. Most of the PC3200 out there is designed for something between 2.6 and 2.8 volts, and the fancier it is, the higher it tends to want. Sort of like cars, engines and octane 😉

O. good thing i didn't change it yet.. VDIMM.? is there a tab for that? i'll check when i restart. I don't know what stock on my board is, so can't help you or myself there. rofl. =X Are you saying my budget PQI stick is "fancy"? :0!

I have to say I ran the memtest a couple of times earlier today to try to pinpoint a reoccuring issue, and the only test that it failed was the LRAND. I tested the two sticks of PAI Power 512 that I have, plus a buddies Crucial 256 PC2700 to see if there was any real difference. Sure enough, there wasnt. With that being said, the Crucial stick has never given any trouble to my friend. . . so I am still at a little lost for what to say. Any suggestions, with regards to my memory type and mobo? thanks

If there were a flaw in the motherboard's memory controller, Memtest would reveal that too. Maybe the chipset isn't perfectly stable? Can you bump the chipset voltage 0.1 volts in your ASRock's BIOS, perhaps?

🙁 can't find where to bump up any voltages..i went through every single tab, no luck. RIght when it finished booting windows, somehow i got these two messages:

Did you look in the Advanced > JumperFree Configuration section for it? See pages 4-27 and 4-28 of your A8V Deluxe manual, you have to disable the AI Overclocking feature to make this adjustment manually.

well, got that up to 2.7...programs are loading a lot quicker now..but when i ran the memtest86, still bazillions of errors =o)

No no voltage adjustments, except for Normal or High. I didnt buy this board to do any OCing anyways so, respectfully it is understandable that the options are not there. But I do have a couple of questions.

If someone could please explain the following terms / items. On-Die termination, and V-Link Speed. Also a question about an AGP setting, AGP Aperture size, options were 32, 64, 128, and 256. I am guessing / assuming that it needs to be set to mirror the amount of video memory onboard the AGP card, correct? Thanks

I have also gotten rid of the "other" BSOD error messages, and am left with only one. A STOP: 0x0000008e (another combo, another combo, another combo, and another combo follow inside paranthesis). So while I have "fixed" the other issues, I am left with just this one reoccuring one.
