Hi guys - I'm starting to do my research for my next build, my last one being 6 years ago..since that time so much has changed I'm basically starting from scratch.

Can someone enlighten me regarding memory costs. I'm looking at getting 8 or 16 gigabytes if RAM. What I don't understand is why this product of 8GB DDR3 1333 memory from Gskill is $125, but this product of comparable 16GB DDR3 133 memory from Gskill is $329.

Can't I just buy two of the $125 packs for $250 and save $75?

I suspect its a matter of quad channel vs dual channel, but my understanding is no cpus support quad channel at this time, so I'm not sure the benefit of buying the $329 product.

Thanks in advance!

It's the same freaking thing. Manufacturers will often have discounts on one particular set and not apply it across the entire line. It's also an example of market segmentation - people that are less informed (and wealthier) will buy the more expensive alternative "because it's what they need".

Marketing gimmick. You don't need to buy the "quad channel kit" to get quad channel memory. Two sets of the 8GB kit will do just fine.

volume of sale - they sell the dual packs in retail format - more.
G.skill is volume junk - more volume sold = deeper discounts. in retail packs you don't break it up so easy lol.
