Memory Performence

is there an article somewhere that shows 1T vs 2T performence or single channel vs dual channel?
i know dual channelling doubled the b/w, but how does it impact actuall performce in games and applications?
also, wouldnt single channel be better for o/cing? since less parts = less factors that can go wrong and less heat.

i was thinking whether to buy one stick of 2GB PC6400 CL5 or 2x1GB PC6400 CL4

now im vercklempt...talk amongst yourselves, i already gave you a topic. 😀

What about my system?

What if I just dual channel my current memory?

What performance increase will I see?

Haven't tested Single Channel vs Dual Channel in real-life apps ( games, workstation apps, etc ), but to be sure about the difference, I'll do some tests later on, and I'll show you the differences 🙂

Sorry some unexpected situations prevented me from performing the tests.
I'm kinda forced to finish a 'high priority' review, and then I'll definitely do some tests for your request.
Probably I'll have them done & posted by Monday midnight 😉

If using the intel platform the 1T timing isn't that great of a performance difference. Not to mention that most (if any) intel chipsets do not support the 1T function

On an eVGA 680i, the difference between 1T and 2T at a certain speed is equivalent of about 1 CAS level.
I tested my 680i w/ Corsair XMS2 Doms @ 667 1T CL5 and 667 2T CL4 and they were basically equivalent. 667 1T CL4 and 667 2T CL5 were also close.

EDIT: This was all benchmarking w/ SiSoftware Sandra XI Lite.
EDIT2: Edited for mistakes.

I was searching around, and found that Anandtech's review of C2D dual channel ddr1-355/400 vs dual channel ddr2-800 shows them to be pretty similar. Of course the ddr2-800 results are faster, but for the most part, the difference is minimal. I would assume that single channel ddr2-800 is roughly the same as dual channel ddr1-400 with some latency differences.

yeah, I know BZ. I didn't really notice a difference while running my system either. But I wasn't running it on a stopwatch either...
