Memory Performance - speed/size/brand

SO i'm going with the Asus NF7-S 2.0 and a Barton 2500+...

Anyone want to recommend the best memory for this system to get the most performance out of it? I will be OCing and I don't want to pay a fortune....under 200 bucks....

Is it better to have 1GB of RAM that's like 3200/3500....or is 512 enough and go with 3700?

What brands match the setup above the best and provide best bang/buck for performance....

Right now i'm thinking 512mb Corsair XMS 3700 for around 160 ...can I do better?

I would go with some Corsair or Hyper X

Hyper X PC 3200 runs for about 100.00 a stick while Corsair runs for 110.00 or so..

My hyper X does 220 fsb...

I'd go with what is cheaper.

TwinMos, Buffalo, or Crucial.

Benefits of TwinMos: EXCELLENT overclocker. PC3200 using CH-5 can hit around 230MHz FSB on stock volts. Inexpensive, around $100 for 1x512MB.

Benefits of Buffalo: Same with the TwinMos. Inexpensive, around $90 for 1x512MB at newegg.

Benefits of Crucial: One of the best overclocking sticks of PC3200 memory according to tweaktown review. Also around $90 for 1x512MB.

Here's the question - I don't think I can afford 1GB of RAM -

Is it better to get a couple of fast (3700) 256MB? Or Drop down to 3200 and go 1GB?

I know i'd have to pull the 256's to upgrade to 1GB, but I want the best performance and I plan on OC'ing as far as that barton will take me.....

OCZ 3500 EL 256mbx2

OCZ 3200 EL Platinum (same memory as the 3500) 256mbx2

HyperX 3500 LL 512mb

Corsair XMS3200 256mbx2 LL

they are all pretty similar in performance, get the cheapest if u want to save money

Icewind,

Could you stop spouting off about how horrible Hyper X is. Just because you got bad memory does not mean the entire line of Hyper X is bad...

All you have to do is get an RMA.

I'd pass on Crucial...

It is overclocking well due to the fact it's running CL 3.

Blah .. :disgust:

I just bought a 512MB stick and it's chugging along quite nicely at 217MHz FSB 2.5-2-2-9, thank you very much!
