memory performance rely on cpu type and speed?

Does the performace of memory whether it be DDR or otherwise rely somewhat on the performance of the cpu? perhaps the frequency of the cpu or the FSB? is there correlation? Because in bios I have an option to set the frequency of my mem by a multiple of the FSB.

Yes the mems perf is determined by the CPUs fsb

If you have an fsb of 200 and the ratio is set to 1:1 then the ram is running at 200fsb or 400Mhz

The faster the proc's fsb the faster the mems fsb... but the ratio is not always 1:1 for example my machine is running 5:4 which means my mem is running at 160 if my fsb is set to 200mhz

ok thanks, I appreciate your response. The info you have given me leads me to wonder about changing the ratio of mem speed to FSB. I have the a7n8x mobo by asus, and a amd 2000+ cpu. The board auto sets the frequency of my ram to 100 mhz but I believe the FSB for this chip is 133mhz (I believe) so I have a ratio of 4:3. with a fsb so low, does it make sense to OC my memory? my memory is pc2700... I have increased the ratio and increased the mem freq to 200 mhz and ran 3dmark01 with little change, actually my scores have dropped. so really is it my processor that is holding me up then with mem performance? should I just get a new cpu with a faster fsb? something with a 333 FSB?
