Memory PC Versions?

I'm building a Abit KN8 SLI, I thought that motherboards where specific to what PC version of memory they used?

I thought this board only used PC3200, because the manual says --> DDR400 which is PC3200.

So you wouldn't want to run PC 3500 DDR433 correct?

THANKS

I'm not going to OC, so for stock purposes there is probably not much difference between them, I'd imagine.

It shows on the Abit KN8 SLI they test DDR500 on it ---> http://www.abit.com.tw/test_report/KN8%20SLI/

When you put higher rated memory on a board and let it run stock and not OC it, does this place stress on the board, parts?

I need to get a better grasp on memory, what you can and can't do as far as PC ratings on a board and is there really any limitations to it? Like even though a board is rated, with specs saying DDR400, running DDR500, or 550 will be just fine and won't bother anything?

It will just run at the lower speed unless you specifically go in and overclock the motherboard/CPU. Why would running the memory slower than its maximum rated speed 'place stress on the board/parts'?

If you're not overclocking, just use DDR400/PC3200 RAM.

Ok I talked to Abit they only warranty for DD400, so I'll stick with that then.
