memory overflow

my computer got the blue screen of death so i was trying to reformat but when i boot from cd it wont let me because of a memory overflow error. anyone have similar problems ever?

by the way the harddrive is the CURSED deathstar by IBM, 40GB

memtest should be your first stop. This sounds like bad memory.
