Hello! I currently have a Gskill 800MHz 2x2GB kit laying around that I bought but haven't yet used. I'll be getting the GA-EP35-DS3R mobo (and a yet undetermined quad core, most likely the q6600 or the q9450) and will want to add another 4GB to max it out to 8GB.

The Gskill 2x2GB 800MHz kit and the Gskill 2x2GB 1000MHz kit are currently the same price ($85). Could I buy the 1000MHz kit and simply run it at 800 alongside my current 800MHz modules? Might there be any compatibility issues since they are not the same as the others?

Thanks for any insight!

Yes, that will work just fine.

Actually, the two sets are identical, and use identical IC's (memory chips). The PC8000 is guaranteed to run @ 1000 DDR, while the PC6400 isn't (though the majority of them will do it, with the same voltage bump that the PC8000's require). That's the only difference between those two sets.

edit: Oh yeah, welcome to anandtech.

Excellent. That's what I was hoping to hear :)

Thanks! I've been checking out the newegg forums for hardware info for a while, but have just recently checked these ones out (never really thought about this site for forums for some reason, though I've visited anandtech web site off and on for a long time now). There is much more traffic and lots of great info here.
