Memory linked mode performance

I'm looking to buy a new high-end system, but are unsure as to how much performance is lost taking the memory off linked mode.

I'm looking to buy a qx6700 on a striker extremebut has learned that the fsb wont go far past 300 mhz. This has the FSB running at 1200 mhz (quad pumped) but the memory in linked mode running at only 600 mhz (double pumped). If I unhinge the linked mode and run the memory at speeds up to 1066 mhz, will this impede performance? is there much performance to gain from using linked mode? Or am I missing an important aspect fsb-to-memory timings?

Thanks for any input.
