memory leak?

obviously i'm clueless when it comes to how ram is filled and freed. i upgraded to 512k ram but my machine still gives me low memory warnings. yes, i do download a lot of mp3's. yes, i do live a lot of browser windows open at times. yes, i do run the windows media player plenty. but still, you'd think 512 (max for my machine) would be more than enough.

anything i can/should do more efficiently use my ram.

I hope you mean 512 MB. Im not sure if this is a HT question, so you might want to ask it elsewhere.
What OS/programs are you running?
 
i believe the 512k mistake proves my point about my knowledge in this area. haven't had that little ram since an 8088 machine.

512MB windows ME, on pIII 990 machine. im just running browsers xolox, and the windows media player. but i have to shut down a couple times a night just because of low memory.

a strange thing though: i just booted my machine and only 41% of recources are free. how is this possible?
