memory issues

My and my friend both have the same motherboard, they're even from the same order, and I had I tried using a stick of 512MB 4x memory in it in nforce configuration with another 512MB 4x stick, and i kept getting crashes and stuff and I found out on MSI's website that nforce2 doesn't support 4x memory sticks. I ordered an 512 MB 8x memory stick and am using that now, which works fine on its own, as do the 512MB 4x sticks on their own. My friend has the same memory, and I sold him one of the 512MB 4x sticks so he could use it in a comp he was building, and he tried it out in his own comp first, and it worked fine in dual config with another 512MB 4x stick, even though on MSI's website it said that nforce2 won't work with 4x sticks. So i'm wondering whats wrong with my motherboard that it didn't work...

the motherboards we both have are msi k7n2 delta-ilsr, and the memory was
512MB?CT6464Z40B from Crucial. Any advice/info appreciated

umm, 4x and 8x refer to the speeds of the agp bus. they dont have anything to do with memory. but, the stuff you linked was pc3200. anyway, you should download and run memtest86 and see if it works.

no i was talking about if it has 4 memory blocks on the stick, or 8 memory blocks on the stick. I've seen them referred to as 4x and 8x and 16x
