memory issue... any reason why 4x512mb dual channel wouldn't boot?

the system has been cruising along fine with 2x512 geil ultra pc2-5300 ddr2 667 dual channel. decided to maximize ram before upgrading processor and vid card, so i purchased two more identical sticks for 4 total.

system doesn't even post with all four installed. any of the two it boots beautifully.

important specs are as follows:

gigabyte ga-m57sli-s4
athlon64 3500+ single core socket am2
geil ultra 2x512 pc2-5300 ddr2 667 dual channel (hoping to make this 4x512)
36gb raptors raid 0
evga 7600gt
rosewill 500w sli certified psu

any help is appreciated, thanks 🙂

bump the voltage...make sure the command rate is 2T..also if necessary loosen up the timings a little. It does appear that you have run the NEW pair alone in the system without problems..is that correct?

well i had thought i had tested out all possible memory combinations, but it turns out that when i have these two dimms in together, regardless of where, the rig does not boot. strange, either one with one of my original sticks will boot fine but even running just those two sticks in dimm 1 & 2 doesn't boot. i could have sworn that was one of the first things i tried but i guess not.

regardless, rma'd to newegg i'll post if further difficulties ensue once the new ram arrives. thanks for the response 🙂

turn off the computer, unplug it from the wall, put the jumper to reset the BIOS. Leave it at reset position while you install all 4 stick. then put the jumper back to running position, plug it and start it again.

Then adjust your setting back befor booting the OS(time, date,...)

i did reset the bios after i had this issue, restored stock voltage to 1.8v, tried various combinations and the above held true. turned the voltage up to the recommended 2.1v and the above held true. i rma'd the ram to newegg today so i cannot try anything else at this point. i really expect there was some type of ram issue there, we'll see for certain in a week or so 🙂
