I posted a few weeks ago a question regareding upgrading my system memory....My system consists of amd 3500+ CPU ...Asus A8n-SLI Deluxe... My old system memory is Patriot 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820220033

I wanted to addd more but was told not to fill all 4 mem slots ...so I looked at just using 1 stick ...and was told that this would be fine ...Patriot 1GB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) System Memory - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820220045

Check the Asus site or the manual, sometimes different configs have to be in certain slots.

Are you sure your computer isn't shared memory? Maybe your integrated video card is using your RAM memory.

So you are currently using three sticks of RAM, right? Well, the dual channel won't work anymore with three sticks of RAM. Should still work in normal mode ofc, but you have to change the order of the modules.

There are four mem slots (their names are indicated on the PCB next the sockets):

DIMM_A1 / DIMM_A2 / DIMM_B1 / DIMM_B2

Try the following config:

A1: 512MB
A2: 512MB
B1: 1GB
B2: empty

Worth a try. You can actually try different configs of the RAM, there's no danger in trying.

Why were you told not to use 4 DIMMs, & to use 3 DIMMs instead? ...am I missing something... ?

It's the quick-fix way of ensuring the Athlon 64 memory controller does not drop the command rate from 1T to 2T, damaging performance. 4 sticks can be fine, provided they are not all "double sided".

Too bad the quick fix kicks the dual channel mode out of the equation.

Not sure but I should of called Asus first...The MB does not support 3 Mem sticks ...only 1, 2, or 4.......Damn ....will New Egg take this back for a credit...???

He said i will loose some performance...I was just going to use the same mem that i had before...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820220033 what would be the disadvantage..???
Why do people find it soooo hard to put two matching sticks into the blue slots ?
