I recently purchased a Toshiba Satellite 1805-S253 laptop with 128 MB of RAM. I ordered 512 MB of RAM from crucial.com (only $110 total!) to upgrade the system.

When they shipped the RAM I installed it and when I would boot the system up I would simply get a black screen accompanied by a series of error codes. They were as follows:

Both new modules installed = 5 beeps (Long, Short, Long, Long, Short)
One new module installed = 2 beeps (both Long)
Old module and either new module installed = 3 beeps (Long, Short, Long)

The RAM fits fine in the slots so I don't think that's issue. When I put in the old RAM all is well again. I did upgrade the BIOS as well so I don't think that's the issue. After encountering the problem the first time I called crucial and they shipped me out new SODIMMs and the same thing happened so I'm positive it's not defective RAM that's the issue.

Anyway, I've installed RAM from Crucial a half-dozen times or so before (including laptops) and I've never had problems. I just can't seem to figure this one out. Tech support there just says to send it back and get a refund but I don't want to do that if I can avoid it.

Any ideas?
