Alright so I have geared up for my Conroe build, already ordered the parts. Coming I have My ATI X1900 XT, Conroe E6600 and ASUS P5W-DH-DX. I'm pretty much stuck at RAM, and since I bought a nice motherboard I was thinking that I might run it at stock speed for a little while, and slowly slide into overclocking.

First of all I don't know how to overclock, so if someone has a good newbies guide of the rules and tools you need could they please post it.

Second, I am stuck in the RAM woes, I don't know what RAM I should get and whether there is a huge difference between PC6400 and PC8000. Am I going to get a much better overclock out of PC8000 over 6400? So far I have been looking at these three sets, but I'm open to suggestions if anyone has any.

$350 - OCZ DDR2-1000 PC2-8000 Platinum XTC 2GB (2x1024MB) Dual Channel Kit
$255 - OCZ Dual Channel EL Platinum XTC 2048MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz Memory (2 x 1024MB)
$246 - OCZ XTC Dual Channel Gold 2048MB PC4200 DDR2 533MHz Gamer Memory (2 x 1024MB)
$242 - Corsair Dual Channel TWINX 2048MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz Memory (2 x 1024MB)

I don't think I'm gonna go the value RAM route since I only really save about $50 from the cost of the cheapest of the ones I listed above. Also I'm not gonna get into extreme overclocking, probably just with an upgraded HSF and so I don't know if I really need AMAZING memory for that.

From what I have read, Conroe, unlike the AMDs, is not fussy about memory. Pouring money into expensive memory can be a waste of good cash. As one writer said (and I am doing this from memory) "Just about any memory, within reason, is going to work with the Conroes."

AnandTech has an article that sheds some good light on the subject: Conroe vs. AM2: Memory & Performance

Well that's what I'm looking to do. I have never tried overclocking so I don't really know the tangible difference between PC2-8000 and PC2-6400, if PC2-6400 is good enough then I can shave off $100 right there.
