If I have DDR2-800 from G.SKill (4x2 gb) am I going to be hamstrung at 3.2 ghz with the Q9550?

If I want to go higher, and I need faster ram, is there any preferred brand/model for this? Thanks very much.

Depends on how hard you want to push your ram.

Since the Q9550 has an 8.5 multiplier, you are good to 3400 without pushing your ram. 475FSB would get you to 4.0GHz, which is pushing it pretty hard as far as quad OC's go.

Im currently using 8g(4x2G)Corsair ram, at 1.9v 5-5-5-18, DDR2-800 at 448Mhz to give me 3.8Ghz with my C2Q 9550... I think this will be my sweet spot. At 4Ghz it starts running too hot, and needs too much power for my liking. but really 3.4G or 8.5x400Mhz should be a no sweat, under-volt for this processor... at 3.6Ghz for me I was only at 1.2375v, and 3.8Ghz pushes me up to 1.2875v... stable and prime tested.

So, 3.4ghz should be a no brainer
