Hi.

Machine Name: Power Mac G5
Machine Model: PowerMac7,2
CPU Type: PowerPC 970 (2.2)
Number Of CPUs: 2
CPU Speed: 1.8 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 512 MB
Bus Speed: 900 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 5.1.5f0
Serial Number: RM428YX8QES

memory info i have in it right now-

DIMM0/J11:

Size: 256 MB
Type: DDR SDRAM
Speed: PC3200U-30330
Status: OK

Will a 1 gig stick of PC-3200 DDR work in this machine ?

I am seeing on the web the machine needs matching pairs of DDR, is this so ?

Also, is DDR for a MAC the same as DDR for a PC ?

Thanks, I have never dealt with a MAC.

🙂

Yes it is a standard DDR PC3200 stick. If you want to use dual channel on the machine you must install them in pairs. So you could buy a 1GB Kit like http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820141212

do not be suckered into buying Mac specific memory.

There's a common misconception that Macs are picky about ram, but that hasn't been my experience.
2 years ago I ordered a DDR400 Corsair 1gig kit (2x512...think it was VSGBKIT400) for our G5 1.8 [single] where I work and haven't had any problems with it.

One site you may want to also check out is Other World Computing, they specialize in Mac equipment and upgrades/accessories.
