Memory for Laptop

I am on the road a lot and uses a Dell 8500 with 2 gig 333Mhz memory.
The computer is a couple of years old and I am planning to get another dell
XPS or 9300 which uses Intel® Pentium® M Processor 730 (1.60 GHz/2MB
Cache/533MHz FSB)and DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz. Can I use my 2 gig from the 8500 in a new computer?
I have tried to get an answer from dell and their repsonse "try it and see if it works..."
Would it be possible to use my old memory? Are there any downsides?
Also any views on whether to get the 9300 or XPS model. Thanks a lot.
Curt

I don't think the memory would even fit. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but the 8500 and the XPS Gen1 uses DDR memory, while the 9300 and XPS Gen 2 uses DDR2 memory. So the answer is no, you will not be able to use your old memory.

Thanks that answers the question so maybe I will look at an XPS 1st generation now would the issus ofdifferent MHZ be a problem Curt
