Memory for EVGA 750i ultra, core2quade 6600

If you were building a computer, and it was on the EVGA 750i ultra with a core 2 quad 6600, what speed of memory would you go for? take reliability in to account, and make sure there would be no performence bottle neck IE/ The memory is faster then the board can take advantage of. Memory eludes me. Ive always gone after the lowest latencey DDR, but now these new sticks of ddr2 and ddr3 have huge speed differences, and i hear latencey isnt even that important any more. Im confused. Thanks for your input!

That's where im stuck. I was going to go for some DDR2 800 at 4.4.4.12 and clockable to 1000+ at 5.5.5.12 with minor voltage changes, BUT then they sold out 🙁 so I'm now checking the same brand, 800 at 5.5.5.12 and i've seen no reviews if its overclockable with low timings and i don't know how much of a performance hit that is.

But, in your case, the Q6600 has a multi of 9. So at 400 fsb with DDR 800, that's 1:1 ratio = 3600Mhz From what I've read, those get a little hot and you'll need a little better cooling...

Its funny, what we save on by getting a low end cpu with a low multi, we spend the savings on faster memory to get the high processor speeds. total ying yang
