Memory for a GA-965P-DS3

Hi,

I am (still!) thinking about buying a GA-965P-DS3 motherboard and note that the site reviews recommend ?GeIL PC2-6400 800MHz DDR2 Ultra Dual Channel Kit? memory. A UK store is offering a similar product and I would like to know if it is suitable.

The review recommends:

Model/SKU Number: GX21GB6400PDC | GX22GB6400PDC
GeIL DDR2 Ultra Series - 800 PLUS Dual Channel Kit
- Spec: PC6400 800MHz CAS 3-3-3-8
-Avialable in 1GB & 2GB(64Mx8) Dual Channel Kit
-GeIL OC Certified FBGA 64Mx8 DDR2 Chips
-240pin, Non-ECC, Un-buffered DDR2 DIMM
-Metallic-Orange Aluminum Heat Spreader
-Retail Package
-Lifetime Warranty
-Working Voltage: 2.4V

The store is offering (for £164):

SKU: GX21GB6400UDC / GX22GB6400UDC
GeIL PC2-6400 800MHz DDR2 Ultra Dual Channel Kit
Available in 1GB and 2GB (64Mx8) Dual Channel Kit
PC2-6400 800MHz CAS 4-4-4-12
Hand-picked BGA 64Mx8 Chips
240pin, Non-ECC, Un-buffered DIMM
Racing-Orange Aluminum Heat Spreader
Retail Package
Working Voltage: 1.8v ~ 2.3v
Lifetime Warranty

As I don?t understand the relevance of the CAS ratings, could somebody please advise.

Cheers.

AFAIK, the lower CAS Latency (CL) is better.

I would take the CAS 3-3-3-8 for the same price.
In reality, that's still overpriced.

Thanks guys for the very quick response!

>For the same price take the set with tighter timing it'll make your life easier later.
I take it Strang, that that is the CAS 3-3-3-8 product?

>In reality, that's still overpriced.
I agree pkme2, but that price was a special offer! Their usual ?bundle? with the Gigabyte GA_965P_S3 is ?2GB Corsair XMS2-6400C5 DDR2 Dual Channel Kit - Bundle (2x1GB)? at £188. The ?Crucial 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ballistix Dual? part is costing £235.

I would wait for memory prices to fall, if they do, but my Tyan Tiger has suffered the ?flaming connector of fire? syndrome and I am reduced to using my company laptop? :-(

Cheers.
