Memory foam mattress or original spring type?

Thinking of buying some memory foam pieces and piecing together my bed, or buying a regular mattress and possibly topping with memory foam layer. I am undecided as what to do. So what do you recommend?

Regular plus 3" foam topper. That's what I've been using for eight months. It's great.

Select Comfort Air Mattress. Far better than both.

Sleep Number (Air) > Memory Foam > Spring

I paid $110 or so for my memory foam... I do believe the entry cost for the air mattress is rather higher :p

The memory foam matress
If there are two of you get get way less 'bounce' when the other moves.
I have both a memory foam queen and one queen with a topper at home.

I spent a week at a hotel which had the sleep number beds, and I wasn't overly impressed. The 3" memory foam topper I have on my mattress was far better than the sleep number bed, which is just a big air bag.

We used to have a 3" topper but got rid of it because it was hurting my wife's back. After we took it off it was a much better sleep for the both of us. I would suggust to just get a good mattress

Sleep number.

Don't get the foam if you like it cool when you sleep. My friend bought a foam mattress and his wife loves it, but he's too hot except in winter. I passed and bought the sleep number bed. Way overpriced (they all are anyway), but I really like it. Two things I would change, and for 1100 bucks (I got the CHEAP ONE!!), they could afford it.

The compressor is insanely loud!
The whole bed frame is made of the same plastic as garbage cans. I had a lot of flash on mine that needed to be trimmed off, and some holes weren't drilled out enough.
