Memory error

I am getting the following error message:
'The instruction at "0x78001628" referenced memory at "0x00ce2c1a". The memory could not be "read".'
Ok to terminate appliction
Cancel to debug

This happend with a few applictions at various time including internet exlorer.
My system is a AMD 800Mhz Athlon CPU, ASUS K7M MB and 512Mb memory (2x256 modules).
My OS is windows NT 4.0 service pack 4

Okay, my question is this
What does this error mean?
Do I have a bad memory chip on one of my modules?
Is this a problem with the OS or is it hardware?

First off, I'd press the "Debug" option, as it should give you hints as to what module/program is being affected. It's not necessarily a hardware problem, by the way. Here's a link that will direct you to a bunch of other links regarding these types of errors. Maybe one applies:

Download DocMemory from:

http://www.simmtester.com/PAGE/products/doc/docinfo.asp

It runs from a boot disk, and does a great job of testing the memory. It is free. Run at least 20 complete loops, and see if any errors pop up.
