Memory Error

When I was trying to connect to a cs: source server, this pop up error showed and told me to close steam.

This is the strangest error ever with Windows XP. I actually came across one of these while trying to access avi files. I was able to solve it by uninstalling some of my codecs.
Try to do a google search and take a look at the windows knowledge base.
I doubt your problem has anything to do with your hardware though I would run a memtest just to be sure.
Try to uninstall CSS, clean your registry and reinstall CSS.
