memory error while running memTest

I get the following error:

"Error found with word pair# 11699074, values 3355098174, 3353001022 do not match."

Could sombody tell me what that means?

it means something is wrong with your ram.

Thanks, I got that far. I suppose my question is, is it a hardware issue and i need to RMA, or a setup issue? I haven't changed any RAM settings in my bios.

What voltage is your ram rated at? Is it set to that voltage in the bios?

Well, I stopped the test, went into the bios, changed the voltage from auto to 2.75 (what it is rated at) and am re-running memTest. I already have one error at 50% coverage.

Bad ram then. Try running one stick at a time to figure out which sticks bad.

Reseat the ram first, and try switching slots if it's possible to do that.

I had memory that errored out consistently on the first pass as soon as I installed it; it turned out to be badly seated (or maybe it was dust, I don't know) at any rate, there was nothing wrong with it.

Ran each DIMM seperately in same slot, ensuring each was well seated. One DIMM checked out good, the other was loaded with errors. Changed slots and same result.

I'm off to RMA. Grrrrrrr.

I would also try to force the timings in the bios to match the rated timings of the memory before RMAing it. Some boards autodetect timings incorrectly.

I thought SPD mistakes were pretty much a thing of the past, but that's a good suggestion.

Tried with no improvement. Anybody know if I can use this old PC100 RAM I have lying around in the meantime?

Does the machine use sdram? If so then you should be fine, but might need to run a 4:3 divider (Most pc100 will run at 133mhz though). If it's ddr ram, then obviously you can't use pc100 though.

Its a ddr deck. I completely forgot that PC100 is sdram. I think I must need more sleep. Thanks guys.
