Memory dillema

I currently have 2x of 256MB 400MHZ installed on my computer. I want to upgrade because it takes forever to load Battlefield 2.

I have three options:

1) Get 2x of 256MB and therefore increase the system RAM to 1024MB

2) Get 2x of 512MB and therefore increase the system RAM to 1.5GB

3) Get 2x of 1GB and remove the existing memory and therefore increase the system RAM to 2GB

Option 3 is by far the costliest so I will try to avoid it unless someone with a great argument convinces me otherwise.

Its a midrange system consisting of a Pentium 4 3.0 GHZ and other parts. I don't want a new system for at least a year, so adding memory makes a lot of sense.

Option 2? Interesting. I have heard that 1GB or 2GB might be better than 1.5GB and that similar pairs of memory work better together.

Thanks for your post, Kensai.

More opinions are welcomed 🙂

well it looks like i answered my own question.

i just ordered 2 sticks of 256MB RAM for about $55. that is not bad at all

hopefully i wll see big improvements in Battlefield 2

if you look at battlefield 2 benchies though, BF2 loves more than 1 gig ram. 1 gig ram will screw you up at the start of your spawnlagging you down.
