Can I use a stick of 512 PC3200 memory in my mamma board that claims it wants PC2100 ?
They are the same price at one web site & I'll probably will be able to use the pc3200
in a future mamma board, where the pc2100 probably won't due me as well.
I don't care if the PC3200 only runs at 266 mhz or not. (in the MB's I've got now)
I've got a Socket A, ESC K7S5A or Asus A7V266
and the 512 meg DDR infinion? memory only shows up as 256 meg on the Asus,
so I'm memory shopping.
Is there a fix for the missing 256 megs of the 512 meg stick of unknown memory I have.

Any info would be appreciated.

Yep, just to agree with Adul, you can use the memory in a lower board... it'll just lower itself to the appropriate speed.

I can't argue with any one who has over 10,000 posts.
Especially when they tell me what I wanted to hear.

Thankx much for the confirmation, I'll buy the hot mem for the same price.

Some motherboards will initially jump to the highest bus speed that the memory will allow. You may have to go into the BIOS and force the memory bus to PC2100 speeds (133MHz).

The good news here is that PC3200 ram doing PC2100 can definitely do very optimal timings as well. You can set it to 2-3-3-5 (I think that's the highest normally used timing) easily and it'll run faster like that.

Thankx all,
the delima has ended, I'll buy the fastest memory at the reasonable price from now on.
My 512 meg showing 256 meg problem is taken care of in another post.
