Iam a bit confused on these two issues...

First for DDR2, if my mobo supports 667MHz memory then can i install lower speed(533MHz) in it ? I think yes...but i hav seen that a 667MHz module if installed in 533Mhz slot the module will run slower, but the PC will wrk fine.
So whch one is correct...?

About CPU and mobo comaptibility, iam pretty sure that if ur mobo is 800MHz FSB then it supports all lower speed CPUs(400 and 533FSB), but its not vice-versa.

Can you give specifics?

I'm guessing you're talking about pentium4's?

Well, I'll try to answer your questions:-

I've never used DDR2, but i would be willing to bet money that this would work. But the DDR2-533 will not perform as well as using (more expensive) DDR2-667.

That's my understanding as well. But i think all desktop pentium4's run at 800FSB anyway, so there shouldn't be a problem.

If you have a mobo that only supports 533mhz FSB and lower, but you have an 800mhz FSB P4, then I believe it should downclock the P4 to run at 533mhz. About the memory, DDR2 667 slot also supports DDR2 533. You should have no problems.

Thanks.

It doesnt matter if its Intel or AMD...

For memory i know that 667 slot will support 533 memory module...but will a 533 slot support a 667 module? Will the 667 module run at 533MHz or will it result in an unstable system?

For mobos that hav a 800MHz FSB, they will accept 533 P4s( mobo FSB will becom 533MHz)..but if your mobo FSB is 400MHz and u install P4 800FSB , then ur system is in trouble, i guess.

Any clarifications?

um, yes it does!!! DDR2 is Intel and is 400+ mhz (nonoverclocked), and DDR1 memory is for AMD and is 400- mhz (nonoverclocked again). Not only that, but DDR1 and DDR2 has the notch in a different spot, so ddr1 won't work in Intel, and ddr2 won't work in AMD. Also, AMD's have an on die memory controller and therefore no FSB on the motherboards.
