I currently have a Epox 8k7a with 2 sticks of pc2100 128 mb ddr ram. i've had this setup for about 2 years with everything running fine. then 2 weeks ago, my system freezes. i take out all my pci cards, and ram, and put things back to see what the problem was. the system worked fine without one of the sticks of ram, and thankfully it was from crucial, so i RMAd it and got a new one promptly.
however, i try putting in the new stick and the system won't get past the post screen. it counts all 512 mb of memory, but i hear a slight whining sound from my board, and i get a post code of 52 from the onboard display.
I changed the CPU clock select jumper from 133 to 100 and changed the CPU clock to 100 in the bios as well and now everything runs fine with BOTH sticks of ram in the board. However, my comp is running at 1 ghz instead of 1.4 because of the lowered clock speed.
I've cleared the CMOS, reflashed the BIOS and still nothing. Any ideas on what I can do?
btw, the post code 52 is a list of things in the book..here they are.
1. Initialize all ISA ROms
2. Later PCI initializations (PCI Bios only)
- assign IRQ to PCI Devices
- initialize all PCI ROMs
3. PnP Initializations. (PnP BIOS only)
- assign IO, memory, IRQ & DMA to PnP ISA Devices
- initialize all PnP ISA ROMs
4. Program shadows RAM according to Setup settings.
5. Program parity according to Setup Settings
6 Power Management Initialization
- Enable/Disable Global PM
- APM interface initialization
