I have just OCed my P4 1.8A to 2.25Ghz! I used a memory fan. It's basically a case fan over the memory. :) Here are specs:

1.8A @ 2.25 1.65V
TH7II-RAID
1GB RDRAM @ 500
Radeon 8500 Retail

I just wanted to let you know that memory cooling, especially for DDR and RDRAM is essential for OCing. It really helped me out.

Because of the way RDRAM works, it generates concentrated heat in one spot very quickly, hence the need for the heatspreader.

Did you actually manage to overclock further with this fan or not?

You are correct. I noted the same thing: with my MB, the RIMMS are located in a very condensed area on the board, given about 7cm of space. Since RIMMs become very unstable due to heat (like most electronic equipment), I decided to add fans. To answer your question, it really helped me out, and I can go up to 2.43Ghz with moderate stablilty, as opposed to not going that high at all. Currently I am running my 1.8 @ 2.25 with very good stability. I have had prime running for about 2 hours yet, so let's not jump to conclusions.

Please spread the word, that Memory cooling REALLY helps.

Edit on my previous post: I increased the voltage from 1.65 to 1.675 because prime was giving me Round Off Errors.

I just tested it with a thermal indicator, and here are the results while running prime:

36C - with cooling
67C - Without cooling - Unoperational (system crashes)

Unless you are overclocking your memory however, you should not need to add more cooling to it. Check what memory dividers you are using. For a 1.8a going to 2.4 you should set the bus to 133mhz and the memory divider for rdram should be dropped to 3x so that it continues to run at spec. Of course if you want to overclock the memory than be my guest and yes in that case the memory will run hotter and you may need additional cooling. Good luck. FYI: You must run prime95 for 24hrs to be sure....I've gotten an error at the 18th hour because of not enough voltage...
