Memory conspiracy

I know this is off subject, but there is no memory section to post in. But while I was scouring the net for memory deals I came across what I think everyone needs to know.... Mushkin (as much as I want to like them) is RIPPING PEOPLE OFF!
If you go to newegg and search for buffalo memory - some of them are Winbond chips. The 3200 and 3700 in particular.
Now go look at Mushkins "Super" deal of $140 a stick of 512mb pc3200 ram with cas2 settings. Now take a look at the buffalo 512mb 3200 ram on Newegg's site. Looks ALOT alike, just rated at 2.5 instead of 2 with same memory. NOW look at the 512 pc3700 ram, same deal, just bigger. Take both of the pics and compare.

The mushkin 512 pc3200 IS buffalo 512 pc3700 ram. Just underclock the ram to 400 or less and get the good timings.
The mushkin stuff is $139 and buffalo is $99. You do the math. 2 mushkin equals 3 buffalo. (almost) 😀

Now I'm not an expert, and I may have set a course for the wrong star system here, but I'd like some feed back from my findings. I know people got to make a living, but I think its cheap that memory makers can hide behind heat spreaders, making it impossible for you to inspect the memory ram chips with the void warranty covering their backs. Its sad that a 9600pro video card and 1 stick of ram are the same price. But gas is 1.60 a gallon now too. So boo-hoo.:frown:

No one is holding a gun to the buyers head to make them buy the expensive stuff. They pay their money gladly and even crow about it later.

I don't happen to be one of those people who feel it is necessary to pay almost double the price to get a great performing computer.

mushkin rev2 ram runs at lower latency than most/all buffalo modules. Thats why its far more expensive. The question of whether its worth it or not is what to ask.

The Mushkin is BH5 that will run some nice tight timings. The Buffalo PC3200 is CH5 based which is not as fast. The Buffalo 3700 is BH5, but still doesn't run the same fast timings as the Mushkin.

The quality of the printed circuit board that the memory chips are on also contributes to the performance and price of the final product. There are a lot of things that can effect the signal integrity such as inductance, capacitance, crosstalk and others. The quality of the PCB is determined by such things, and it's not easy to minimize them. Peace.
