Memory confusing me! Quick question BIOS/Sandra/AIDA32

I bought a few 400SC (celeron version), and then I ordered Corsair Value Select from NewEgg, the 256 3200 DDR. I know Dell 400SC brings out the true memory, and I wanted something stable. However, I pop in a chip of Corsair, and the 400SC detects it as 266mhz in the BIOS. Oh geez, 333mhz would have hurt too, but 266! Oh man!

So anyways, I try each different chip seperatly and 400SC all detect them at 266mhz. So I load up Sandra and do a bench, and it marks them on par with 2700DDR.

I then load up AIDA32 and it recignizes them as 3200.

Here's my problem....

BIOS: (2100) 266mhz
Sandra: (2700) 333mhz - benchamrked
AIDA32: (3200) 400mhz

However AIDA says they are 3200 at 200mhz. I'm so confused with this whole memory thing!

So is this Corsair running at 266mhz/2100 speed? I bought at NewEgg, so easy exchange if that's the case, and what do I replace them with?

Thanks so much, I appreciate it!

they are sticks of pc3200

but your motherboard will report them as what ever speed they are currently running (sounds like your running them at 133mhz, hence the mobo reports it as 266 or pc2100)

AIDA32 is probably reading the info off of the spd on the ram itself

Thanks for the informative reply, good info, problem is I already understand that. On Dell servers (don't know about home systems), they don't let you change the memory settings, as they preconfigure to *stable*.

I don't mind it being clocked down, I just want to know if I should RMA my memory and get something that the 400SC's will recognize at 400 (3200).

I've heard corsair is the most stable, that's why I went with it, but I'm thinking of getting something else, perhaps Buffalo CH-5 chips?
