Memory configurations - using the second set of dimm slots

It may be an old wives tale, but does using the second set of DIMM slots degrade performance over having the same amount of RAM in just the first set of slots? If I want 8GB in a dual channel system, should I get 2x4gb or 4x2, or does it not matter.

Also, does it matter if I have an assymetric amount of memory in each set of slots (like 2x4gb in the first and 2x2gb in the second).

I've heard that using the second set of slots may affect OCing performance, but other than that, it doesn't matter.

Only difference is not being able to add more ram later with the 4x2GB config.

Go with the 4GB x2 ,, and you must put the second ram stick in the other 2 dimm slots the first one, so it runs in dual channel which makes it faster actually....

Was thinking about doing 6GB as 2x2gb + 2x1gb. But I can do 8GB for something like $20 more. So why would I bother with the 6GB?

So I guess it's a moot point.
