Quick stats

Mboard = ASUS A8N5X 939 NVIDIA nForce4 ATX AMD Motherboard
Current Ram = Patriot Signature Series 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400

I need more ram.
Currently I have 1 gig of ram in channel one on my mboard. I want to pick up 2 more gigs of ram and still use my old ram. I only have 2 slots which is channel two left so that means I need two 1gig ramcards.

my questions are
do I have to buy the same company ram
and will it work if I had 1 gig on chan 1 and 2 gigs on chan 2.
or should I mix it up and put one 1gig and one 512 in on each channel making it even

will any of this work,
do I make sense

thanks

combining different brands should work fine, although you are probably going to need to run 2T timings with 4 sticks of RAM. You generally need looser timings overall on 4 sticks than 2 as well, but I have gotten the same setup running with 3 GB on the same chipset.

u might want to make sure that the ram youo're buying is similar in voltage that it runs at with the current ram u have. this is assuming that you're getting different ram and no he same patriot signature series ram. for example:

patriot signature series DDR400 x-x-x-x @ 2.6v
new ram DDR400 x-x-x-x @ 2.6v, not 2.4, 2.5, or 2.7v.

that would be the best solution. the optimal solution would be to get the same ram
