Memory Compatibility

I'm looking to get 16GB RAM for a P8Z77-V/Pro. Looking through the Qualified Vendor List PDF from ASUS there isn't a whole lot of selection in terms of qualified kits especially if one wants to avoid kits with giant heatspreaders like Corsair Vengeance RAM that might interfere with large tower coolers.
Considering the memory controller is integrated how likely am I to run into issues if I get RAM that wasn't validated with a specific kit?
Ideally I want a 2x8GB kit since then I wouldn't even mind large heatsinks. But a 4x4GB kit or even 2 identical 2x4GB kits are fine by me. Keep in mind the parts selection here is a lot more restricted than in the US so I'd like to keep my options as either Corsair or G.Skill as they are the most common vendors around here.

I'm well aware of the Samsung RAM's popularity but sadly I simply can't get any around here in Israel. Corsair and G.Skill are the 2 most common vendors and I could probably get my hands on some Kingston or Geil branded RAM.
There is a well priced 2x8GB G.Skill kit with nice low profile heatspreaders that I like but I'm worried it may cause issues, however unlikely, since its not on the QVL for the board.
Edit: Decided to have a look at the newegg reviews for the kit I had in mind just for the hell of it (I know the reviews there are not to be trusted) but a couple of people there reported having zero issues with the 2x8GB kit running on a P8Z77-V so that's always encouraging to hear.
I just remember back in the day when some boards were picky with memory that wasn't validated to work with them and wasn't sure if that's still the case these days.

The QVL is not an exhaustive list of memory which will only run. Aslong as you buy RAM which meets the spec, it will be OK.

For Ivy Bridge, the spec is 1.5v @ 1333 or 1600.

If you overclock, you can push faster RAM and maybe 1.65v but it's not technically within spec so can have issues.
