Memory compatibility

I had thought that as long as memory was DDR 1 it would work at least somewhat with the ultra-D. Is this so? Is it just some don't work at CAS2 or T1 or something? How do I check before I buy memory if it will be good or not?

Edit: johnnyMon gave a suggestion of a place to look to see recommended memory, but the other questions remain unanswered.

Some boards are picky with what memory they will run. Technically you are right, all memory from the standard should work. When you are using a "picky" board, using "non reccomended" memory will still probibly work but not at the highest rated speeds, latencies, 1T, dual channel, etc.

Thats why its a good idea to check what everyone else is using to see what works well and what doesn't. In your case, the best place to check would be DFI-street.com, as advised by Johnny or the Ultra-D sticky in our *anandtechs* motherboard section. I think you will find most MB forums have a reccomended memory sticky that holds just such information.

It was on the list of supported memory, is it as good as price as a similar memory will be likely this month?
