Hi,

Like the title says... I have a P5GD2-X, and I'm thinking about pairing it with two 1GB PC-5400 sticks (DDR2-667)... I have no idea if this will work...

Also, the system already has 2x512 MB PC-4200 (DDR2-533) in two of the four available bays... will there be any conflict?

Dear Anita,

here is the QVL, qualified (memory) vendor's list for your motherboard:

http://support.asus.com/downlo...el=P5GD2-X&type=Latest

Third option from the top.

You can get an idea of the brands of memory Asus likes from the list; however, just because a memory module is not on the list doesn't mean it won't work.

Your 667 memory should down clock to 533, and should work fine. However, the more "mainstream" your memory, the more likely it is to work.

If using all 4 sticks causes a problem, you may need to remove the two sticks of 667, manually enter the timings for the 533 sticks you have, then add the 667 sticks back in--they should, in theory, run fine at 533, as memory is supposed to be backwards compatible.

aaah! lovely!
I didn't know if the old "run PC133-at-PC100-speeds" trick also applies to these newer generations.

Thanks much! One of the stores in my area has a sale on DDR-667 Crucial memory, so that's really good news!
