It can, but most working with most common apps run on a notebook, you'll never see a significant difference. If you're running a program that challenges the system, you can see a small difference.

What's the laptop being used for?

I would suspect that in most cases you wouldn't notice any difference unless you were running benchmarks on it.

I use it for everything, but the memory upgrade is for gaming.
