My understanding is that full 1080p is 17Mbps = 5.4GB/hr ?
I'm thinking of getting a Panasonic HDC-SD9 which records only to SD cards, so I guess a couple 8Gb cards would be fine eh? Provided I can transfer the files over at the end of the day.

edit: no my numbers appear to be way off for uncompressed video, but the camera itself seems to record at 17Mbps at high quality via compression I guess.

Ok, does anyone know what kind of storage space I'd need for about 3-4 hrs with a typical 1080p camcorder?

The figures I saw on Engadget worked out to roughly 2.6GB/hour, but I'm not sure what quality setting that requires (or even if there are multiple quality settings available). I'm guessing Panasonic offers "EP/SP" type modes with different levels of compression.

You should be safe with an 8GB card for about 2-3 hours of video, but prices are so low these days that you can easily pick up a pair of them just in case.
