Memory card icons under My Computer

I had to reformat my system the other day. Now I do not see the icons for my memory cards under the My Computer screen. All I have are drive letters for each empty card. I have a Enermax panel in my system (UC-9FATR2). Before it would show a icon for the SD card under drive I:, a icon for the CF card under drive E: and so on.

It makes it alot easier to know which drive is which. Am I missing drivers or something that will put these on. Here are two screen shots. The first is my system without the names. The second is my wifes system with the names.

IMHO.....here's the deal. XP does not install specific icons for the card drives. You need to load the drivers that came with the card reader. Then you'll see icons and have the various drives identified.

I just did this for a internal card reader. Had the same problem as you describe....

You may need to do a little registry work to get what you want. This is an old post with some bad links, but it should get you going.

After doing some research I found a article here. Very straight forward article from PC Magazine.

As the card reader disk did not have any drivers for Win XP I inserted my own per the instructions. This was my second card reader so the drivers from the first one put the right icons in under My Computer the first time. When I formatted my system these were lost.

I guess that goes to show. No matter how much you back your system up there is always something lost in a format you didn't know you needed.

Thanks for the help.
