Memory buying question

I plan on running 512megs (2x256megs) of memory in dual channel mode

I see 256 mb memory selling for $44 on newegg. If I buy 2, it's just $88.
Corsair Value Select 184 Pin 256MB DDR PC-3200 - OEM
Cas Latency: 2.5

On the other hand, the duel kits costs $100.
Corsair Value Select Dual Kits 184 Pin 512MB(256MBx2) DDR PC-3200 - OEM
CAS Latency: 3

My questions: why is Crosair charging more for the duel kits with worse cas latency? Couldn't I purchase 2 256mb for $88 and run them in duel mode to achieve the same results?

That is weird. The dual kit doesn't include heatspreaders, does it? You're right about just being able to buy the two cheaper sticks and running them in dual mode. Maybe the QC on the dual-kits is a little higher?

I noticed that the other day too, when I was buying my RAM. I went with buying 2 sticks separately because my proc doesn't have the ability to run in dual-channel (and it's not really a hindrance).

Maybe the QC on the dual-kits is a little higher?

Could be that, I dunno. I was thinking it could be that the kits have 2 sticks of RAM that came off the production line together.
