memory brand that stands out?

is there a brand of memory that stands out from the rest? I've been thinking about corsair value ram. Does anyone prefer any others? Would be preferable if the ram worked well with epox or dfi nf4 ultra or sli mobo.

If you're going to use a DFI motherboard, don't get value ram. Corsair seems to be hit or miss. OCZ Platinum revision 2, OCZ Gold, G.Skill seem to work good on DFI.

depending on what you want to do is best how to determine RAM and what your budget is.

Just to name a few brands off the top of my head.

Corsair, kingstone, mushkin, crucial, geil, OCZ, patriot

OCZ Platinum Rev2, PQI, and G.Skill are all great brands.
Kingston HyperX and Corsair XMS, still good performance RAM, but sometimes the extra $$$ just isn't worth it.

I've run both Corsair and Crucial RAM - I had a few problems with Crucial RAM with my ABIT KV8 motherboard a while back, so I replaced it with Corsair Value Series from NewEgg. I can't say enough great things about Corsair RAM. Not a single problem ever, and it's currently clocked above the DDR400 rating with no stability problems at all. Cheap too!

though they arent the ones people normally recomment (like corsair), I have had great experiances with PQI and Geil. Both have some great ram at good prices.

from what i hear, OCZ is a favorite here? Ram will mostly be used for gaming, if that helps 😀. How do you peoplefind which one's the best? do you just keep buying different brands of ram and trying them out?

For me, it depends on the intended size and speed of the product.

Overall, I find that OCZ, G.Skill and Crucial suit my purposes very nicely as I overclock and game so I need stability and speed capabilities.

you never know how good a company is until you have a problem and i have had some with memory. since you can get whatever you want from any of the manf, imo it comes down to customer support.

i have had the best luck with ocz tech/rma support and they are also on these forums, giving out thousands of post of advice on what to setup their ram at. next in line would be mushkin and then kingston.
