Virtium Technology SSDDR SoDimm PDF

http://www.virtium.com/

I had a sales guy that I deal with call today in regard to a new line he is carrying. This company, among other things, sells a SoDimm with an Integrated SSD.

For example, you can order a DDR2 or DDR3 SoDimm with 2GB of Ram and up to 32GB of SSD storage. Same size and form factor as a standard SoDimm. Appearently, it would require a custom pinout on the motherboard (probably utilizes the unused pins for the SATA signals...I have not confirmed this yet.

Rather interesting concept, if nothing else. I imaging this is targeted at the embedded world.

I asked for pricing...will report back when I hear more.

but... anything that has such a space issue that it cannot use a 1.8 inch drive in addition to the sodimm, would simply use ram chips on the board directly isntead of using a sodimm... and a full size computer will not want a much more expensive, less compatible, combination of slower sodimm and slower ssd.. instead its better to have them seperate.

Its like integrating a HDD with a video card, there is absolutely no reason to integrate such unrelated components...
