my bro is moving back home and leaving me his computer... so basically i get an extra 512 of ram to put into my setup, bringing it to 1.2GB PC2700 dual channel... anyway my question is can I run windows without a pagefile on my hard drive now? and what sorta performance differences would i notice? i have 2600+ barton, nforce2 setup...

thanks!

you really wont notice much...Probably wont hear the hard drive search as much though.

I just added 512mb ddr 400mhz ram so i now have 1gb for dual channel, but the only thing noticeable is that when i edit video (ie clip commercials) it takes about 5-10 seconds less time for a 30 minute show

Anything over 1GB is pretty much overkill right now. As for the pagefile, leave it alone. Windows uses it to offload "unused" data in RAM so that more physical RAM is free for programs, so your performance may actually suffer by turning the pagefile off.

true, but the point of having 1.2 GB is that i'll never really have need for a HD page file..

You are still gonna need the page file, and the I believe the recommended page file size for you is 1536mb.

you are correct on both accounts

i have 1.5 gigs of ram and i still NEED and HAE my pagefile, i let windows manage the size, it still pages stuff, even when im not useing photoshop which is why i have all this ram

i have a similar set up XP Pro 2400+m @ 2.4Ghz, almost no diff between 1 gig and 1.5 gigs for anything other then say photoshop and other memory eating programs

the diff between 512 and 1 gig is bigger, afte a gig the preformance increase is more aplication spacific and less for windows in general
