Memory and MB Settings ... newbie

Blackwin

I just put together a new system .
I am using Chaintech 7vjl Deluxe MB with the VIA KT400 + VT8235 Chipset
Athlon xp 2100+
Kingston 512MB 333MHz DDR PC2700 DIMM CL2.5

This is my first upgrade into the DDR memory type, also new to the higher fsb settings.
I am looking for some info on what settings would be good for my memory, cas..vdimm voltage... command etc.
Also wondering what I should use for a setting on my clock frequency , i have a 100, 133, and 166 setting.

The book that came with the MB , assumes I know all this 🙂

Any help would be appreciated.

I would set your memory timings to normal or default to start with at cas2.5, vdimm on 2.8v. Make sure your cpu is unlocked and lower the mulitplier and set the fsb to 166Mhz. Your cpu won't hit 166MHz on the stock multiplier. When you get everything stable, I would try cas2 for the memory timings, then work your way faster from there. Use a combination of Sandra and Memtest to make sure each new setting is stable and faster. Prime95 will also error out if your memory settings are too aggressive. If you are gonna overclock the cpu also, do one at a time, don't try tweaking the memory at the same time.

P.S. Welcome to Anandtech Forums.
