memory and IE crashing

I recently got a new stick of RAM. I installed it and my PC would not post. If I removed the old stick it would work fine. Is there any way to use both or are they simply incompatible?

They are both PC2100 DDR 256MB sticks.

Also, since I made this change, IE frequently crashes. Sometimes the whole program and sometimes just the current window. Is this likely related?

I would try swapping slots of both sticks and see if it helps. Sometimes certain RAM won't play nice with others. If IE is the only program crashing, I wouldn't relate the problem to memory.

put the old stick back in and if IE still crashes it's not the memory, if it does, either you mobo has problems with more than one slot being used or the new schtick es verboten.
