Hi,

I recently got a motherboard that supports PC 3200 memory and i've been looking to get more ram. I currently have 2 PC 2100 256 MB sticks but was looking to get another 512 MB of ram. My question is, is it possible to use two different memory types at the same time? If I get another 2 PC 3200 256 MB sticks of RAM will I be able to run both the PC3200 and PC2100 sticks and if so will the 3200 ram get clocked down to 2100? Or do u think the performance increase would be neglible so i should rather just get another 2 PC2100 sticks?

Thanks in advance

pc3200 is backwards compatible, so it will run at pc2100.

if your run your cpu at 133fsb, the new ram will also run at 133.

your overclock will be limited to the pc2100 tho.

Also, don't put the PC3200 in the first DIMM slot as the BIOS will query it for SPD data and if your memory timings are set to Auto or By SPD then it will actually overclock the PC2100 when you don't want it to.

Cool, thanks a lot for the advice. So I shouldn't have any problems running the two different memory types then. All I need to do is put the PC 2100 memory sticks in the first two slots and the PC 3500 memory in the last two slots and set the memory to auto and I should be all set. The motherboard should automatically run the memory at PC 2100 speeds?

Thanks again
