Looking to buy a gig of memory, I was told not to worry about dual channel, so what is the best 1G stick with the best latency i can get for around $220?

I saw an OCZ CL3 PC3200 1GB module at Newegg for around $200. If you're looking for overclocking memory, though, you may have to look at 2x512, since 1GB DIMMs don't come as fast or with as low latencies as smaller ones.

Any advantages in the 3500, 3700, or 4000 categories? Or is 3200 all you really need?

The higher ratings are just "guaranteed" to run at their respective higher speeds.

If you get a good quality DDR3200 stick of ram like Crucial's Ballistix, you can run those things up to DDR4000 np. Stable as hell.

Just don't get a cheap stick of 3200 ram, or you will most likely have problems overclocking them.

*edit* So in short, 3200 is all you need.

May I suggest 2 of these (dont buy a single 1gig stick......something happens, your whole gig is gone).

Definately. Not only do they (2 512 sticks) perform better and have better latency, if one goes bad, you are only out half a gig instead of a whole.

*edit* not to mention a QUALITY stick of 1gig ram costs a bit more than 2 quality sticks of 512MB ram.

It'll probably be cheaper to just go 2x512 (though it may adversely affect your overclocking potential), but I went to Crucial's site and saw a 1GB DIMM rated for PC4000 at CL3. It was $290 before a 4% discount there, though. By comparison, you can get 2x512 of some TCCD on a budget for closer to $200-220.
