Memory - 1 Gig vs. 2 Gig's

I am building a new system. Going with a P4 3.2 w/HT. I will be doing a little video editing like making DVD's from home video and also using DVD Shrink sometimes. I want to be able to do other tasks while capturing video or during encoding or burning. Will I be able to do this? Will 2 Gig's of ram help over just 1 Gig?

Thanks,

Chad

Video editing doesn't take much ram at all and relies heavily on cpu. If you're not using quickpar, total size, or other ram hogging apps I'd think 1 Gig should do it.

I'm doing exactly what you are wanting to do with just 1GB and the same processor. Runs fine and you can do stuff in the background like play music, surf the net without any delay.

DVD shrink at the moment while encoding is only using about 700MBs~ of RAM.

For almost everything 1gb is plenty of ram, 2gb's probably won't be worth the cost for the small amount of performance you'll gain.
