I saw a Memorex 6142U scanner on Clearence $19.9?($20) at Local Store(Atlanta).
I did not buy it as I have it already. It is a good scanner for the Money.

I have one from a couple of years ago when it was the Staples black friday deal ($10 after MIR). It's a rebadged Primax 2400U, and drivers can be gotten from www.scannersupport.com -- so if you're looking to see if a particular OS is supported, check there. There is no non-Windows OS support and it does not look like that's going to change. For a $10 or $20 scanner, it works pretty well. It's flatbed, removable top/backing, A4 paper size, USB 1.1 interface, and appears to do a good bit of the work in the scanner chipset rather than being totally host driven. Its scan speed is not bad at all.

How is the quality on it? I picked up the 48u a few weeks ago for 4.99 ar/ac, and it is fine for documents, and for 5 bucks I'm not complaining, but pictures turn out highly pixelized. Very blocky.

I bought the 48U some months back and thought it did a pretty descent job for the price. Are you sure you have your settings right? Try scanning a photo at 300 DPI and see what you get.
