Are they silver coated or white coated??? I noticed that once I bought a silver batch of memorex after buying TONS of white memorexs that it takes about 3-5 tries thus wasting all of your cds, I'll never buy those silver ones again, I don't know why they switched from white to silver but the silver ones are not great, only way I'll ever buy memorexs again is if they change it back to white

Mine are all silver-coated. What burner do you (and the OP if he's still reading) use, and how old is it? I have a relatively brand new 52x32x52 Asus cdr/rw drive and my burns are literally flawless. Not a single coaster that wasn't my own fault; burning a corrupt file, trying to stop the process once it had started (smacks own forehead), and burning duplicates (when I'm doing 20+ at a time I tend to zone out a bit). Older players and burners can have problems with newer media.

i've never had a problem with memorex cd-r's...i've burned about 3 or 4 hundred without a coaster.. maybe it's your burner..
i have a lite-on 48x and never had a prob.

tru and tru but too rich for my blood 🙁

I used to buy 50 Fuji CD-R TY's for $5 at BB all the time. Lately these deals seem to have disappeared.

As of 2 months ago the Fuji 50 packs here in Illinois BB stores have been TY media, I still have a 50 pack sealed up somewhere around here.

How do you know where your media was created?

I picked up 2 50pk of Fuji CD-R's. How would I know who made it? Or is it some random thing?

ah.. thanks. Just did it and my Fuji's are Taiyo Yuden. Learn something new every day.

over 75% of the Memorex CDs I've burned start flaking and chipping a year later. I use TDK now and they work better, but still have a slight tendency to flake after a while.

i use many memorex products because they are cheap, hell, i even have a memorex stereo, yes, you get what you pay for, they suck.

These Verbatims are CMC Magnetics, and these Khypermedias are... CMC Magnetics.

I guess this doesn't work on CDs that are already used.

So what manufacturer is supposed to be really good?

it works on used cd's too. hell even a couple of audio cd's that i tried (a while ago)

and TY is highly recommended. however i find no problems with my CMC's (TDK, khypermedia, optimum, phillips)

It's true that after a year, these stuff become obsolete and are thrown away in the trashcan anyway...

Alright for the recorded the crap Memorex disc was manufactured by CMC Magnetics, its silver backed. The Fujis I've been buying are Taiyo Yudens, 50 packs, not 100s. I also have some sony's that show as being manufactured by "sony", I didn't know sony made media?

To re-cap?? the Fuji's always burn at the full 52x, never anything less and no coasters. The Memorex fail about half 1/2 to 2/3 of the time and never hit 52x if they do decide to burn... These are the only blanks I?ve ever used that have out right fail on me and I?ve used all kinds. The Sony's sometimes don't reach the full 52x but nothings failed yet. This is all done on a Plextor Premium 52 with PowerREC on, with it off the drive burns at the max speed with a chance of slight burn imperfections due to sup-par media.

I've almost always gotten memorex CD-Rs, they've never let me down. I always burn at the full speed of my burner.

Sounds to me like that guy has a bad burner, not media.
